Hinshaw & Grundmann AwardsHinshaw & Grundmann Win Videographer Awards
Professors Joe Hinshaw and Mike Grundmann have received the highest honor, the Award of Excellence, from the Videographer Awards for their DVD "Geometry Rules." In addition, Hinshaw's DVD, a companion to his book on Visual Storytelling, also won an Award of Excellence.

The 2009 SMAD Scholarship and Award winners were formally announced during the SMAD Awards Ceremony on April 10, 2009. Eleven students received scholarships and another twelve students were recognized for their academic achievement and contribution in SMAD.

Garriott on De LucaSMAD Alumnus Khalil Garriott on Flip De Luca
SMAD '04 graduate Khalil Garriott is a writer/editor for the NFL Players Association. In an article for Madison Magazine, he wrote a tribute to former SMAD professor Flip De Luca, who passed away in May of 2008. Garriott recalls De Luca's personality, influence and his passion for the craft of journalism.

The publication highlights alumni, students and faculty in the School of Media Arts & Design and was produced by students in professor Ken Terrell's "Feature Magazine Production" class. Professors Terell and Dietrich Maune served as advisers for the publication.

The first meeting of a new SMAD Alumni/Professional Advisory Council was held on Friday, April 10, 2009. The group was formed to unite and facilitate interaction among constituencies of the School of Media Arts & Design and to assist, advance, support and promote the mission and objectives of the program.

NAB VideoStudents Produce Video Shown at NAB
Brian Weiss, Caitlin Roscioli, Ariel Park, Josh Short, and George Hanuschak worked with professor John Woody to produce a video at the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) convention in Las Vegas. The video was tremendously well received by industry members at the conference and put SMAD in the spotlight at an important industry event.

I was just reading SMAD about you and the picture on the back page took me back to the "Good old days". Those were my teachers who gave what I needed to work in TV. The only people who I can remember who were not in the picture were Dave Tucker who taught radio and Jim Miskimem who was advisor and taught broadcast management. Many thanks from some who learned broadcasting when we had reel to reel video tape and u-matic was a newer format. Good luck to the new graduates, it is a great field to work in.
