Yea, I'm attending USMC Officer Candidates School at Quantico- (after working at XJM, I feel ready for anything) ...small departure from the traditional media realm for the time being, but I won't stray from the clutches of After Effects for very long. I'm interested in some "combat visual information support" fields- I'm not exactly sure yet what I'll be doing, but it'll probably somehow involve an M-16, a Sony VX2000, and Tony Taylor. Word to XJM, the MRDs, and the A-Seeger Housekeeping Staff!

what a great way to keep in contact with everyone! i am happy to say that in august, i got a job as a reporter in maryland. the station is called cable news 21. in early september, our producer left...i'm now also producing the 6:30 show...and anchoring on fridays. i absolutely love it...but, as i'm sure many of you are, i am quite busy. you should know...i've had many people ask where i went to school...they say i have a well-rounded knowledge of the industry (what do they know?!)...and i am proud to tell them that i went to jmu! i feel that i was very well prepared for my job. a big thanks to all of my smad professors over the years.

Hi Everyone, It's great hearing what class of 2000 is up to these days. I spent about a year working at a 20-some person Web company called AllSoldOut.net in Arlington, Va. and living in Alexandria. I'll give all of you who are still grinding it out in the D.C. area a lot of credit; Caroline and I couldn't take take the crazy (Saturday afternoon, even?) traffic and lofty rent, so we finally moved back to Baltimore last May. I'm loving up here--I'm a Web Designer/Programmer at an insurance company about 3 blocks from the Inner Harbor. The people are really cool--it's almost like the good old 12A, 12B, and 13 days of Anthony Seeger, only the water fountains are taller. I'm also doing some freelance Flash design on the side. Congrats to all those doing what they love (or at least mildly enjoy). Good luck and, if you've ever in Baltimore, drop me a line.

Hey Folks, after spending several months filing my teeth into points and attacking Twinkies in Indonesia, I'm back stateside. I was fortunate enough to have experienced the dot.com fiasco first hand, and BOY was it fun! I'm currently the Editor-In-Chief of a monthly magazine based out of Athens, Geogia called Dawg Life, where I also get to act as the Art Director and Principal Photographer. It's a great time! For those of you who know me, rest assured, I'm still as obsessed with playing music as ever. I found another guitarist just as phycotic as me, and we have built up a band and are playing the Northeast Georgia circuit. I'm only averaging about 4 hours of sleep a night, but I'm loving it!

Hey Everyone, Well, I didn't quite land the job in Multimedia, right away. I am currently working for Deep South, a band management company. I personally work for Bruce Hornsby, and a few other bands you might have heard of. My company works for quite a few other signed bands, and some new "up and coming acts." I'm doing some multimedia work on the side, working on corporate videos for Bruce and a few other bands. The editing studio I work out of is actually a post prod. facility for a nationally syndicated hunting show (complete with weird, dead animals everywhere)...it adds atmosphere that Seeger just couldn't do. I'm also the company consultant on DVD production and anything media related. Not too shabby, but I'm still looking for the fulltime Multimedia Gig.

Yup, just like Bryce, I TOO worked for an internet dot.bomb! Damn shame. Then I worked at Waveworks Digital Media with fellow SMAD alum Karol Ely (good looking out Karol :) But...after a few months, I decided that wasn't the best place for me. So I packed it up, moved out to CA and am currently pursuing an MFA in Computer Arts with a concentration in New Media at Academy of Art College in San Francisco. Great school with an even greater job placement ratio. (600 of Pixars employees are AAC grads...that ain't nothing to sneeze at :) I'm learning good stuff and hopefully I'll be able to land a pretty cool job after this. After graduation I went out to Hawaii for three months and worked with Youth With a Mission--a Christian organization dedicated to knowing God and in turn making Him known. I then spent two months teaching from God's Word in the jungles/prisons of the Philippines. After arriving back in the States I have worked for a year and a half doing video documentaries around the world for Campus Crusade for Christ. On October 13, 2001 I am marrying Rebecca Swanson from McHenry, IL. We are currently working as Youth Pastors, Young Adult Pastors and International Outreach Coordinators for Hunter's Creek Community Church in Orlando, FL. This is far from what I planned on doing while studying at JMU, but when I finally understood the fullness of the Love of Christ, and what He has done for us, my life has been forever changed. Nothing else compares to following His plan for our lives. He truly has the very best in store for us. I surrendered my desires for working with Film to Him two years ago---a few weeks ago without my even pursuing it, an opportunity came up in which I was able to have lunch with a high-level Hollywood Producer--He is going to send me the script for his major motion picture and have me tell him what I think is good and what is not. I could never have orchestrated this! GOD's plans for our lives are FAR better than our own! :)

After JMU I couldn't find any multimedia work, so it was straight video post production for a few years at Interface. My first few years at SAIC were video too, but also some multimedia using Director and the like. They let me learn web stuff and then distributing multimedia via the web was the big thing. Now I'm learning more than I ever wanted to about web-database integration. But it all started back at JMU and "JMU Today" I'm trying to keep up with what's going on video-wise, I especially like DV and Final Cut, but there's only so many hours in the day. Well I guess I graduated at the wrong time to get a "real job". But thats ok with me cause I get to be my own boss. Along with Pete Smith ('01) we started our own company called Afire Media Collective focusing primarliy on DV production and post as well as DVD design and Flash Design. Our clients include The U.S. Postal Service, Independent Producers and Local companies. Besides that I teach Final Cut Pro classes at Henninger Media Services in Arlington a few times a month and work part time doing FCP stuff at the Apple Store in Tyson's. The rest of the time I'm just jealous of Dylan Boucherle cause he has the coolest job in the world at "Lost". Life is fun when you get to do it your way!

Hello to all. I am currently a Graduate Teaching Assistant at Central Michigan University. I teach the lab section of a Video Production class, basically the SMAD 350 equivalent. Also as part of my assistantship I am the Executive Producer of a newsmagazine formatted show that airs on Central's campus as well as within the Mt. Pleasant community. I'll be recieving my Master's in May after I finish up my thesis work. At Central we're working with Avids and Final Cut, Mini DV and DVC Pro formats. The SMAD program was great preparation for me, it's amazing to be on the other side of the educational process.

I'm a Graphic Designer for Northrop Grumman in their Information Technology Sector(since 8/00)...Northrop Grumman is a "global aerospace and defense company providing high technology, innovative products, services and solutions for its U.S. and international military, government and commercial customers." I get to work on a variety of projects from designing website interfaces to marketing brochures. I also provide graphic support for proposals. I am the Multimedia Production Manager for the NRA. The NRA? Well, I saw the position in the Washington Post and it sounded like me. So, I shaved my head and went in for the interview. I got the job the next day! I handle all the in-house day to day responsibilities of the A/V department, a/v consulting issues, as well as audio/video productions around the country. I travel some, shooting DV footage and editing in Final Cut Pro. I just got back from spending a month in New Mexico in the Southern Rockies where I completed a documentary in my hotel room on a powerbook G4. I also get to use Pro Tools regularly and even do live sound! I've now been at the NRA ten months and everyday I think about how lucky I am to get paid to do what I love! This job makes it possible for me to freelance on the side, save a little money, and still work a little for "agents of good roots" when I get a chance. SMAD prepared me well by forcing me to become diverse in media--instead of being a "specialist", I have a little bit of knowledge in a lot of things.

After nine years as a full time 911 Telecomunicator for the Harrisonburg-Rockingham Emergency Operations Center, I have a "normal" job. Last month, I started my new position as Volunteer Coordinator for Rockingham County, VA Fire and Rescue. I am in charge of recruitment and retention of volunteers for local fire and rescue agencies. My Communications Degree from JMU assisted me in obtaining my new job. I hope to return to JMU and take current communications, marketing and public administration courses.

I would just like to say hello to all current and future SMAD Students as well as my past professors. I currently work in Fairfax, for Veridian Information Solutions as a Graphic Artist. We do Government Contracting, and Proposal Development. I enjoy my job very much. I guess all of my hard work has paid off.
