Joe Hinshaw brings both professional experience in broadcast television and academic experience from the University of Oklahoma and Indiana University. He spent 5 years working in the Washington, DC television market before attending graduate school at IU.

After leaving Indiana in 1998, Joe went to the college of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Oklahoma. While at OU, Joe taught writing, electronic news gathering and advanced video production. In the fall of 2000, he received the distinguished teaching award from the college's alumni group.

He has several video production awards from both the Broadcast Education Association (BEA) and the International Television Association (ITVA). In addition he has published about copyright law and computer software. His doctoral dissertation was titled "Privileged Use: A Proposed Solution to the Dilemma of Standardization and Interoperability in Copyright Protection of Computer Software." A native of northern Virginia, Joe says that he is glad to be back home.
