Hodges Receives CAL Staff Recognition Award

SMAD's Technology Manager, John Hodges, is the 2013 recipient of the College of Arts & Letters Staff Recognition Award. The award recognizes John's exemplary service to students and faculty in SMAD and for service to the College and the University. John was nominated by faculty and administration in SMAD. In his nomination, SMAD Director Steve Anderson wrote: According to his job description, John manages the technical needs of the School, which includes overseeing the departmental computer labs and television studio.

SMAD Students Win National mtvU Competition

SMAD majors Kristen Hotz, Jasmine Jones, Danielle McLean and Liz Ramirez won a major national competition by creating a campaign to combat Human Trafficking. The national mtvU contest was open to college students across the country. The four created and designed the concept for an interactive video series called "The Backstory" that uses social media to tell the stories of human trafficking victims.

National Aquarium Hires Amanda Forr as Communications Manager

National Aquarium is pleased to announce the hiring of Amanda Forr (JMU-SMAD 2002) as Communications Manager. As Communications Manager, Forr will create, edit and deliver content and communications relating to the organization’s mission within brand guidelines. This includes content for online communications such as the website, mobile website, and social media platforms, as well as for marketing materials, a quarterly magazine and a weekly radio show.

Hey SMAD students and recent SMAD grads, CACI, Inc. is looking for a web and graphic design intern to help assist me with tasks in the Corporate Communications office at the Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division (NSWCDD) in Dahlgren, Va. For those of you who don’t know where Dahlgren is, it is about 45 minutes from downtown Fredericksburg, Va. and about 30 minutes from Waldorf, Md. I am the Web Administrator for NSWCDD so I manage both the internal and external websites for the organization. We are looking for someone who is familiar with Photoshop, InDesign, HTML, section 508 compliance and the MS Office Suite. Microsoft SharePoint experience/knowledge would be a plus but it is not required. Good writing skills are also required. Strong organizational skills and the ability to multi-task is a must.
