Darko Entertainment-3 Day Intensive Production Internship Available - Orange County, NY

I signed on to co-produce a series of comedic shorts being produced by Darko Entertainment (Donnie Darko, Southland Tales) and distributed on the web via 60 Frames (60frames.com). Next thing you know we got the go-ahead from the powers that be to shoot the weekend of Dec. 7-9. Two weeks away, I know, but it is a passion project and we are stoked to even have the miniscule budget we do.

The shorts are low budget and we are seeking one or two interns to assist as PAs (very low pay, meals & transport) on our shoots. The shoots are going to be in Orange County, NY (about an hour north of Manhattan)

If you are aware of anyone who may be interested in filling any of these positions, would you please forward them my email address? The total production should take about 40-60 hours.

Thank you so much for your help,
Matt Stuart

RedPeg Marketing - Internships

From SMAD Alumnus Jeremy Paredes

Hi SMAD! I started working the week after graduation (something that I do regret, take some time off, Class of 2008!) at RedPeg Marketing, an experiential-marketing agency headquartered in Alexandria, VA. It's a very different type of marketing, and rather than explaining it, check out our case studies at www.redpegmarketing.com. We work with various clients like Anheuser-Busch, GEICO, the National Guard, Choice Hotels and Chase Bank to name a few. I've been in many different roles since coming back to RedPeg (I interned here) and have been traveling a ton. I'm actually coordinating the Intern Program which is a lot of fun. I'm recruiting for Spring '08 right now but if you're looking for a summer internship, let me know, I'd love to bring some Smadders on board. (jparedes@redpegmarketing.com) Speak to you all soon!

National Geographic Channel - Entry Level Engineering Job

From SMAD Alumnus Kevin Barnhill

Hey SMADIes, I have a job lead here at NGC and wanted to pass it along to you folks. The position is an entry level engineering job. It's basically helping to set up networks, installing VTR machines, working on our encoding equipment and helping to install a tapeless library. It's all very technical and not creative in the least. However, I will say that a lot of the editors and staff members we have here started out in similar positions. I started out as a Network Operations assistant and worked my way in to editing. They are looking for someone who wants to get their feet wet in the business and can groom to be in our Post Production environment. The job is not glamorous and will not have any benefits. I expect the salary to be in line with most entry level positions though and NGC does pay well. Please get in touch ASAP via my NGC email at kevin.barnhill@natgeochannel.com. Also give me a shout if you live in the DC/NOVA area and want to get a beer or go to a game sometime. Good luck all, I hope everyone is doing well!

OnCall Learning Systems-Charlottesville, VA - Flash Developer

If you know a fair amount of Flash, don’t have a summer job yet, and like to work independently from home, this project is for you.

OnCall Learning Systems creates interactive computer-based training used in the clinical setting. In other words, we teach doctors, nurses and ancillary hospital staff how to enter orders and document patient care online. The development platform we have used for the past ten years is being discontinued and we are migrating to Flash. We need a Flash programmer to create new buttons and templates that mirror our training style and then teach us how to use them.

We are not looking for complicated Flash animations, but rather for interactivity. We plan to use the Slide Presentation feature of Flash 8 for the new tutorials. For examples of tutorials created in our current platform, visit www.oncalllearning.com.

This is a contractor position, paid by the hour when you are onsite at our Charlottesville facility and paid by the object or project when you work from home. The successful applicant may continue with project work during the school year if desired.
