My background in news began with a small cable news program where I reported, anchored and produced the newscast. At the same time I was working on my master's degree and this led to my first teaching position in production and news. I taught at Arkansas State University, The University of Tennessee at Knoxville, and Carson Newman College prior to coming to James Madison University. In each of these positions I have had the responsibility of producing the university's student television news program. In addition to my teaching, I maintain an active freelance writing career. I write scripts for educational videos and do some commercial copywriting.
Teaching Interests: Broadcast Journalism, Media Effects, Scriptwriting, Video Production
Research/Creative Activities: Scriptwriting, research on the effects of media on children and teenagers

MACRoCkumentary was produced by SMAD Digital Video students in support of the SMAD Scholarship Fund and MacRock. It recreates the chaos of hosting a grassroots Indie-Rock conference in a rural Virginia college town.
