Posted by SMAD March 24, 2009

Nationally recognized media analyst, researcher and educator Katharine Heintz will present on the topic of "Whose Views? Diversity and Inclusion in U.S. Entertainment Media" on Monday, March 30th at 7:00 p.m. in Harrison 2105.

Entertainment media operate as cultural storytellers and socializing forces around the globe. Dr. Heintz has studied the representation of different groups in U.S. media and argues that the pictures of the world represented in entertainment media influence the ways we see ourselves and others. She is the author of Fall Colors: Prime Time Diversity Report, a research report prepared for “Children Now.”

Her work has been featured in more than a hundred newspapers nationwide, including the New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, the Chicago Tribune, and U.S.A. Today as well as national magazines such as Parents Magazine, Parenting, and TV Guide. She has appeared on local television and radio programs as well as the National Public Radio programs “On the Media” and “Media Matters.”
