SMAD Alumna Elected V.P. of the Virginia Pro Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists

Laura Hutchison, a 1992 graduate, has been elected vice president of the Virginia Pro Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists.

The election of officers was held during the group's annual awards banquet in Richmond on June 7.

Hutchison is the local news editor at The Free Lance-Star in Fredericksburg. She previous worked at the Daily News Leader in Staunton, the Winchester Star, the Culpeper Star-Exponent, and for the American Press Institute in Reston.

While at JMU, she was the Focus editor for The Breeze and executive editor for the 1992 Curio.
