Posted by SMAD April 21, 2009 On April 15th, the JMU Chapter of the National Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi initiated new members. Included in this academic achievement recognition were one senior and three juniors who are SMAD majors. The students were senior Caroline Lee Carter, and juniors, Renee Young Lazer Bayliss, Connor Birkner, and Leanna Cecilia Caplan. Phi Kappa Phi is a national organization founded in 1897 to recognize academic success open to superior college students regardless of academic discipline or gender. There are more than 280 chapters of Phi Kappa Phi, ranging from Maine to the Philippines and from Alaska to Puerto Rico. To be selected, a student must be in the upper 10% of the senior class; and the upper seven and one-half percent of the students with junior standing upon completion of 72 hours. The faculty of SMAD congratulates these students for their academic achievements not only in our major, but during their entire undergraduate program of studies. |
