Digital Video and Cinema Tenure-Track or Renewable Term Position
Beginning Fall 2010
The School of Media Arts & Design (SMAD) at James Madison University invites applications for a tenure-track or renewable-term assistant/associate professor with teaching and professional experience in film and/or video production beginning in August 2010.
We seek a student-oriented colleague committed to producing compelling stories with video and sound across media with a strong professional background in television, film and/or video production. The successful candidate will teach at all levels of SMAD's Digital Video and Cinema curriculum, including HD video production and post production. This individual will also contribute to at least one of our foundation areas (video, audio, Web, and print design). Professional experience in one or more of the following is preferred: compositing, audio production, screenwriting, directing, and production management. Candidates should have a record of, or potential for, outstanding teaching and award-winning creative work.
SMAD provides one of the finest media production facilities in the country, with an HD television studio and 16-station HD post production lab. SMAD students shoot and edit narrative and non-narrative programs for broadcast and online distribution using single and multi-camera production.
SMAD has four concentrations: Converged Media, Corporate Communication, Digital Video and Cinema, and Journalism. Our faculty represents a blend of professional and academic interests. All SMAD faculty members are involved in teaching, service, and research or creative activities. An MFA or Ph.D. is required for a tenure-track appointment; ABD applicants with the degree near completion will be considered. A master's degree is required for renewable-term appointment. Salary and rank are commensurate with education and experience.
