James Madison University
Video Journalism Tenure-Track or Renewable Term Position
Opening 2008-09

The School of Media Arts & Design (SMAD) at James Madison University invites applications for a tenure-track or renewable term assistant/associate professor with teaching and professional experience in video journalism beginning in August 2008.

We seek a student-oriented colleague committed to telling compelling stories with video and sound across media with a strong professional background in broadcast, online or multimedia journalism. We seek a candidate who can expand on the NPPA philosophy of strong visuals and generous natural sound to tell stories in less traditional ways across media and platforms. The new hire will participate in our evolving journalism curriculum including classes in visual and broadcast journalism.

The person will also teach in at least one of our foundation areas – graphics/print, audio/video or web, using appropriate software. Candidates should have a record of, or potential for, outstanding undergraduate teaching.
With one of the finest facilities in the country featuring SMAD’s brand-new high-definition television studio and a 16-station HD post-production lab, our students shoot, edit, record, and encode material for online or broadcast entirely in HD.

Our School has concentrations in Corporate Communication, Journalism, Digital Video, Interactive Media and Cinema Studies. Our 20 faculty members represent a blend of professional and academic interests. The school has approximately 600 undergraduates in the major. For more information visit smad.jmu.edu.
