Interactive Media One-Year Instructor Position
Beginning Fall 2012

The School of Media Arts & Design (SMAD) at James Madison University invites applications for a one-year, non-renewable teaching position to begin in August 2012.

The selected applicant will teach primarily in our foundations area, including professional software such as Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign and Dreamweaver. The candidate will also teach beginning and intermediate web and interactive production courses that are part of our Converged Media concentration. Required skills include proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite applications, HTML and CSS. The ability to teach basic design principles, such as composition, color theory, typography and layout, is also required. The ability to teach JavaScript, jQuery, MySQL and PHP is a plus, but not required for this one-year position.

SMAD has outstanding media production facilities, including four Mac-based computer labs with the Adobe Creative Suite applications. Special purpose labs serve our interactive media and journalism classes. SMAD’s video production facility is high-definition from acquisition to post-production and includes a 1,080 line HD studio/control room and 16-station edit lab.

SMAD has four concentrations: Converged Media, Corporate Communication, Digital Video and Cinema, and Journalism. Our faculty represents a blend of professional and academic interests. Candidates with some teaching and professional experience in web/interactive production preferred. A minimum of a master's degree in mass communication or a related field is required. Salary is commensurate with education and experience.
