Posted by SMAD September 13, 2007

A former executive with Verizon who planned the internal communications for two of the biggest mergers in U.S. history will speak to SMAD students and other interested students, Wednesday, Oct. 3, at 9:30 a.m. in Harrison Room 0118.

Jane Hamilton will talk about what it took to manage communications for the 70,000 employees affected by the Bell Atlantic/NYNEX merger and the 160,000 involved in the Bell Atlantic/GTE merger that created Verizon. Hamilton, currently director of development for the Greater Richmond YMCA, will cover strategic messages, communicating across different corporate cultures, coordinating communications in two companies and the massive logistics involved in staging launch-day celebrations worldwide.
